This comprehensive 13-day route explores two of China’s most diverse provinces. You begin in the misty, lush basin of Sichuan, home to the Giant Panda and the towering spiritual landmarks of Leshan and Mt. Emei. Mid-way through, you leap across the mountains via domestic flight to the Yunnan Plateau. Here, the air thins and the culture shifts as you follow the Ancient Tea-Horse Road through the ethereally blue lakes of Dali and the cobblestone alleys of Lijiang, culminating in the heart of Tibetan culture in Shangri-La.

After time at the summit, descend and return to Chengdu, carrying a calm sense of reflection from one of China’s most sacred mountains.
Highlight: The sun reflecting off the massive golden statue of Samantabhadra.

Day 5:
Chengdu → Dali | Domestic Flight
Route: Flight to Dali → Erhai Lakefront
The Experience: Fly from Chengdu to Dali, arriving in Yunnan’s relaxed lakeside setting. Settle in near Erhai Lake, where gentle breezes, open skies, and calm waters set the tone for a slow, unhurried afternoon by the lakefront.

Goal: Wear comfortable shoes as we need to walk a lot.

Day 8:
Dali → Lijiang | Shaxi Ancient Town
Route: Dali → Shaxi Ancient Town → Lijiang
The Experience: Depart Dali in the morning and drive toward Lijiang, pausing along the way in Shaxi Ancient Town. Once a key stop on the legendary Ancient Tea Horse Road, Shaxi remains refreshingly untouched, with stone lanes, old temples, and a slow rural rhythm.
After exploring the town, continue to Lijiang, arriving in the evening to settle into your hotel.
Highlight: The peaceful silence of the village square, broken only by the soft sound of a distant lute.

Day 9:

At Tiger Leaping Gorge, the Jinsha River roars through a narrow canyon between the towering Jade Dragon and Haba Snow Mountains.
Short walks and viewpoints allow you to take in the gorge’s depth and movement before continuing on to the highland plateau of Shangri-La, where the landscape opens, and the air turns crisp.

Note: Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a light jacket.

End in Dukezong Ancient Town, wandering its stone lanes and prayer wheels as evening lights glow across this historic Tibetan settlement.
Highlight: Turning the giant golden prayer wheel in the center of town, making a wish for your loved ones.
Tip: Try the yak butter tea! It’s salty and strange at first, but it’s the ultimate "highland hug" in a cup.

FAQ
Is this trip suitable for first-time visitors to China?
Yes — it balances iconic attractions with leisure time and avoids overly strenuous hiking.
Is the Tiger Leaping Gorge hike difficult?
The standard "Upper Gorge" visit involves some stairs but is manageable for most fitness levels. We can adjust the intensity based on your preference.
Will I see the "Golden Summit" at Emei?
Yes, we utilize the cable car to ensure you reach the summit to see the 48-meter tall golden statue of Samantabhadra.
How is the food in Yunnan compared to Sichuan?
While Sichuan is famous for its numbing spice (peppercorns), Yunnan cuisine is more diverse—expect fresh mushrooms, goat cheese, and floral-infused dishes.
What level of fitness is required?
Moderate — most days involve walking and some elevation (Emei/Cangshan), but cable cars reduce difficulty.
Can this be customized?
Absolutely — you can adjust nights in Dali/Lijiang, add a tea plantation visit, or swap Tiger Leaping for Shangri-La’s Meili Snow Mountains.
