Yellow Stone Village
One of the best classic viewpoints in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
Overview
Yellow Stone Village, also known as Huangshizhai, is one of the earliest developed scenic areas in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and remains one of the best places to enjoy classic views of the park’s sandstone pillar landscapes.
Located on a high mountain plateau, the area is surrounded by dramatic cliffs that rise above deep forest valleys. A circular walking trail follows the edge of the summit, connecting a series of observation platforms overlooking hundreds of towering stone pillars.
Historically, Huangshizhai was one of the first areas opened to visitors when Zhangjiajie tourism began in the 1980s. Today, it remains famous for its panoramic viewpoints and relatively peaceful atmosphere compared with some of the busier areas of the park.
Visitors can reach the summit by hiking or by taking the Huangshizhai Cable Car, which provides sweeping views of the surrounding mountains.
Why Visit
Yellow Stone Village offers some of the most classic and expansive views in Zhangjiajie.
From the summit plateau, the landscape opens in every direction, revealing a vast forest of sandstone pillars rising from the valleys below. Because the viewpoints sit on a relatively open ridge, the scenery feels broader and more panoramic than in some other areas of the park.
The walking trail around the summit is also surprisingly peaceful, especially compared with the crowds often found at Yuanjiajie.
For travelers who want to enjoy Zhangjiajie’s famous pillar mountains from wide, scenic viewpoints while walking at a relaxed pace, Huangshizhai is one of the most rewarding areas to explore.
