The Experience:

This morning, we start early and drive to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Pandas are usually most active in the cooler morning hours, especially during feeding time.

As we walk through bamboo forests and natural-style enclosures, you will see giant pandas eating, climbing, resting, and sometimes playing together.

After visiting the pandas, we return to the city center and slow the pace down at People’s Park. This is one of the best places to experience Chengdu’s everyday life. Local people gather here to drink tea, dance, practice calligraphy, sing, and chat with friends. We can sit in a traditional open-air teahouse and enjoy Chengdu’s famous slow lifestyle.

Later in the afternoon, we continue to Kuanzhai Alley, a historic neighborhood with old courtyard architecture, local snacks, handicrafts, and hidden cafes. It is a pleasant area for walking while learning about Chengdu’s blend of old and modern culture.

Highlights

  • See giant pandas during their most active hours
  • Experience traditional Sichuan tea culture
  • Explore one of Chengdu’s best-preserved historic neighborhoods

Tips

  • Morning temperatures at the panda base are usually cooler and more comfortable.
  • Kuanzhai Alley becomes lively in the evening and is a good place to try local snacks.

The Experience:

After breakfast, we leave Chengdu by private vehicle and begin our journey toward the mountains of Western Sichuan.

The drive takes most of the day, but the scenery changes beautifully along the way. Wide plains slowly give way to deep valleys, rivers, forests, and mountain roads.

As we enter Tibetan-influenced areas, you will begin to notice prayer flags, stone houses, and changing local culture.

By late afternoon, we arrive at the foot of Siguniang Mountain. Then you will check in the hotel in Siguniang Town.

Siguniang Mountain is often called the “Eastern Alps” because of its dramatic snow peaks and alpine landscapes.

The fresh mountain air and peaceful surroundings create a completely different atmosphere from Chengdu’s busy urban life.

Highlights

  • Scenic drive from lowland Sichuan into alpine mountain regions
  • First views of Tibetan culture and plateau landscapes
  • Beautiful mountain scenery around Siguniang

Tips

  • The altitude increases gradually today, so drink plenty of water and avoid overexertion.
  • Keep a light jacket accessible during the drive as temperatures drop in the mountains.

The Experience:

Today, we spend the day exploring Shuangqiao Valley, the most accessible and visually dramatic valley inside Siguniang Mountain National Park.

After breakfast, we take the park sightseeing shuttle deeper into the valley, where snow-covered peaks, forests, rivers, and open meadows stretch in every direction. When we reach the top, we will walk downhill.

We will stop at different scenic points throughout the valley. The scenery changes constantly.

Compared with many crowded mountain destinations in China, Shuangqiao Valley still feels peaceful and open.

Highlights

  • Snow mountain and glacier scenery
  • Alpine forests, rivers, and grasslands
  • Relaxed sightseeing with flexible walking opportunities

Tips

  • Mountain weather changes quickly, so layered clothing is the best choice.
  • UV levels are strong at high altitude even on cloudy days.
Siguniang Mountain Shuangqiaogou

The Experience:

This morning, we continue exploring Siguniang Mountain with a slower and more immersive experience in Changping Valley.

Unlike Shuangqiao Valley, Changping Valley is quieter and better suited for hiking and nature walks.

Starting from the entrance, the round trip is about 22km, taking around 6-8 hours. Depending on your fitness level and interest, we can adjust the hiking distance and pace or experience horse riding at some stops.

This is one of the best places in Western Sichuan to simply enjoy nature without rushing.

Highlights

  • Scenic hiking through alpine forests and valleys
  • Tibetan cultural atmosphere along mountain trails
  • Peaceful landscapes away from busy tourist crowds

Tips

  • Comfortable hiking shoes are strongly recommended today.
  • Walking slowly at altitude is completely normal and helps conserve energy.

The Experience:

After breakfast, we continue toward Danba County, a region famous for its Tibetan villages and traditional watchtower culture. The road winds through mountain valleys and rivers, with constantly changing scenery throughout the drive.

In the afternoon, we visit Jiaju Tibetan Village, one of the most beautiful villages in Western Sichuan. White stone houses with red wooden balconies spread across the green hillsides above the valley below.

Unlike the grassland culture farther west, Danba’s villages reflect a farming lifestyle shaped by mountain agriculture and family traditions.

Walking through the village gives us the chance to observe local architecture, prayer flags, orchards, and everyday Tibetan life in a more authentic setting.

Highlights

  • Beautiful mountain roads and valley scenery
  • Traditional Tibetan village architecture
  • Local cultural atmosphere in Jiaju Village

Tips

  • Sunset light in Jiaju Village is excellent for photography.
  • Please respect local homes and ask before photographing residents.
Tibetan Villages Danba

The Experience:

Today is designed at a slower pace so we can experience village life more deeply.

After breakfast, we head to Zhonglu Tibetan Village, another traditional settlement in Danba County known for its old stone watchtowers, narrow village lanes, and peaceful countryside scenery.

We spend time walking through the village, passing terraced fields, orchards, prayer flags, and traditional Tibetan homes. Zhonglu still feels calm and local, making it a wonderful place to experience the quieter rhythm of mountain life.

During the walk, your guide will also introduce the history of Danba’s famous watchtowers, which were once used for defense, communication, and family status.

Highlights

  • Historic Tibetan watchtower culture
  • Traditional village landscapes and countryside scenery
  • Relaxed cultural exploration

Tips

  • Spring flowers and autumn colors make Zhonglu especially beautiful.
  • Some village paths are uneven, so comfortable walking shoes are useful.

The Experience:

This morning, we leave Danba and continue deeper into the plateau region of Western Sichuan. The road gradually climbs higher through valleys, rivers, mountain passes, and open grasslands.

By afternoon, we arrive in Xinduqiao, a small Tibetan town famous among photographers for its soft natural light, wide landscapes, and peaceful atmosphere. Wooden Tibetan houses, grazing yaks, golden grasslands, and distant snow mountains create beautiful scenery in every direction.

Compared with larger cities, life here moves slowly and quietly, making it an ideal place to relax and enjoy the highland environment.

Highlights

  • Scenic plateau road trip
  • Beautiful grassland and mountain landscapes
  • Photography-friendly Tibetan countryside

Tips

  • Temperatures drop noticeably after sunset.
  • The late afternoon light around Xinduqiao is especially beautiful for photos.
Xinduqiao

The Experience:

After breakfast, we drive west toward Tagong, one of the most culturally rich Tibetan towns in Western Sichuan. Along the way, wide grasslands open beneath snow mountains while herds of yaks graze across the plateau.

In Tagong, we visit Tagong Monastery, an important Tibetan Buddhist monastery with strong local religious significance. As we walk around the prayer wheels and temple buildings, you may hear chanting monks and see local Tibetans making pilgrimages with prayer beads in hand.

Later, we spend time exploring the surrounding grasslands, where colorful prayer flags move constantly in the mountain wind. The combination of open landscapes and deep spiritual culture gives Tagong a unique atmosphere unlike anywhere else on the route.

Highlights

  • Tibetan monastery and Buddhist culture
  • Expansive plateau grasslands
  • Traditional nomadic scenery and yak herds

Tips

  • Winds on the grasslands can be strong, even on sunny days.
  • Always ask politely before taking close photos of local people or monks.
Tagong Grassland

The Experience:

This morning, we leave the open grasslands behind and begin descending toward Kangding by private vehicle. The scenery changes gradually throughout the drive, from wide plateau views to greener valleys filled with forests and rivers.

Kangding has long been an important trading town connecting Tibetan and Han Chinese regions, and this cultural mix can still be felt today through the architecture, food, language, and local markets.

After arriving, we can take an easy walk around town and enjoy the mountain-town atmosphere while watching local daily life unfold beside the river.

Highlights

  • Scenic transition from plateau to mountain valleys
  • Historic Tibetan-Han cultural crossroads
  • Relaxed atmosphere in Kangding town

Tips

  • Kangding weather can change quickly, especially in the afternoon.
  • Local yak yogurt and butter tea are worth trying if you enjoy regional food experiences.
Kangding Old town

The Experience:

Today we explore Mugecuo Lake Scenic Area, one of the most beautiful natural areas near Kangding. After driving into the park, we continue by shuttle through forests, alpine meadows, mountain streams, and scenic viewpoints.

Mugecuo Lake itself sits quietly beneath surrounding mountains, and the reflections on the water change throughout the day depending on the light and weather. We can enjoy relaxed walks around the lake and nearby nature areas while taking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Compared with the dramatic high plateau scenery earlier in the trip, today feels calmer and more restorative.

Highlights

  • Alpine lake and forest scenery
  • Peaceful walking trails and fresh mountain air
  • Beautiful reflections and photography opportunities

Tips

  • Morning usually offers calmer lake reflections and softer light.
  • Temperatures around the lake can feel much cooler than Kangding town.

The Experience:

After breakfast, we begin driving east toward Ya’an as the landscapes slowly shift from high mountain plateau to greener lowland Sichuan scenery. Along the way, we stop at traditional ancient towns known for old stone streets, wooden buildings, riverside views, and local tea culture.

This is a gentler and slower travel day designed to help us transition naturally out of the mountains. Ya’an itself is known as one of China’s tea-growing regions and has a softer, greener atmosphere compared with the rugged plateau landscapes of previous days.

Highlights

  • Ancient town exploration and local tea culture
  • Scenic countryside roads and river valleys
  • Gradual return from plateau to lowland Sichuan

Tips

  • Ya’an is known for frequent rain, so carrying a light rain jacket is helpful.
  • Local tea products make excellent souvenirs.

Today, we return comfortably to Chengdu by private vehicle. The drive is smoother and lower in altitude compared with earlier mountain sections of the trip.

Depending on timing and your interests, we can make flexible stops along the way for countryside scenery, tea plantations, or local snacks before arriving back in Chengdu.

Once back in the city, you will have free time for a final Sichuan hotpot dinner, souvenir shopping, or simply relaxing at a teahouse while reflecting on the journey through Western Sichuan.

Highlights

  • Comfortable return journey to Chengdu
  • Flexible stops along the route

Tips

  • Chengdu is a great place to buy local tea, spices, and panda-themed souvenirs.
