8-Day Chengdu Chongqing Zhangjiajie Culture & Nature Explore

The Experience:

Upon your arrival in Chengdu, our guide will meet you for a private transfer to your hotel.

Depending on your landing time, we’ll head to the Kuanzhai Alleys (Wide and Narrow Alleys). This area is a beautifully preserved slice of old Chengdu, where Qing Dynasty architecture houses quiet teahouses and artisan boutiques.

It’s the perfect place to shake off jet lag with a cup of jasmine tea while watching the world go by.

The Experience:

We start early at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding to catch the pandas during their breakfast when they are most active.

Afterward, we dive into the city’s artistic heritage at the Shu Embroidery Museum, witnessing masters create “living” silk art.

We end the day at Jinli Ancient Street, a bustling, atmospheric market that feels like stepping back into the Three Kingdoms era.

Board a high-speed train for a smooth 1.5-hour journey to Chongqing.

Upon arrival, we explore Ciqikou, an ancient porcelain port with steep stone steps and traditional snacks.

As night falls, we head to Hongyadong and Chaotianmen. The sight of the illuminated stilt houses reflecting off the Yangtze River is a breathtaking blend of ancient tradition and futuristic neon.

The Experience:

We start the morning with an “only in Chongqing” moment at Liziba Station, watching the Metro Line 2 disappear into a high-rise apartment building.

After exploring the vertical city’s unique geography, we board the afternoon high-speed train to Zhangjiajie. Watch the landscape shift from urban skyscrapers to the dramatic, jagged karst mountains of Hunan province.

Highlights:

• The “Train Through the Building” at Liziba.
• Scenic HSR transition to Hunan.
• First glimpse of the Zhangjiajie peaks.

Tips:

• Stand at the designated viewing platform at Liziba for the perfect photo of the train entering the building.
• Charge your devices; the rail scenery in Zhangjiajie is worth filming.

The Experience:

Today is about vertical scale.

We ascend the cliffs using the Bailong Elevator, the world’s tallest outdoor lift, reaching the Yuanjiajie scenic area.

Here, you’ll stand before the “Hallelujah Mountain,” the real-life inspiration for Avatar.

We then traverse the high ridges to Tianzi Mountain, known for its “Sea of Stone” where peaks rise like needles from the misty valley floor.

Highlights:

• The 326-meter Bailong Elevator ascent.
• Avatar Hallelujah Mountain views.
• The peaks of Tianzi Mountain.

Tips:

• We use a “reverse route” strategy here to avoid the peak morning crowds.

The Experience:

We head to the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, home to the world’s longest and highest Glass Bridge. Walking across is a thrill that offers a literal bird’s-eye view of the canyon floor.

After the adrenaline rush, we descend for a peaceful walk through the canyon and a serene boat cruise on Baofeng Lake, where local Tujia people sing traditional songs from the banks.

We take the world’s longest cable car (30 mins!) up Tianmen Mountain.

We’ll brave the cliffside Glass Skywalks and descend the 999 steps (or take the escalator) through the massive Tianmen Cave.

In the afternoon, we drive to Furong Town. This “hanging” ancient village is built directly over a waterfall; at night, the entire town glows, creating a magical, tiered landscape of light and water.

Enjoy a final quiet morning wandering the flagstone streets of Furong Town before the day-trippers arrive.

Witness the waterfall in the morning light before we transfer you back to Zhangjiajie West Station or the airport.
