Itinerary
Day 1: Chengdu Airport → Hotel
The Experience:
Welcome to Chengdu, China’s most laid-back foodie city.
After arriving and settling into your hotel, we recommend slowing down and simply feeling the city for the first time.
If time and energy allow, take a short evening walk nearby and enjoy Chengdu’s famously relaxed lifestyle before the adventure into northern Sichuan begins.
Tips:
- Keep today flexible to recover from jet lag and adjust to the local pace.
- Overnight: Chengdu
- Meals: Breakfast
Day 2: Chengdu Panda Base → People’s Park → Kuanzhai Alley
The Experience:
Today, we begin with Chengdu’s most famous residents, the giant pandas.
By arriving early, we can watch them during their most active hours for eating bamboo, climbing trees, and playing in the cool morning air. Along the way, we’ll also learn why Chengdu has become one of the world’s leading centers for panda conservation.
In the afternoon, we slow down and experience Chengdu as locals do.
At People’s Park, we’ll see locals (old and young) drinking tea, playing mahjong, dancing, and enjoying the city’s famously relaxed rhythm of life.
Later, we stroll through Kuanzhai Alley, where old Sichuan-style courtyards, hidden snacks, and traditional teahouses offer a lively glimpse into Chengdu’s cultural charm.
Highlights:
- Close panda encounter
- Traditional Chengdu tea culture
- Historic alley night scene
Tips:
- Arrive at Panda Base before 9:00 AM
- Wear comfortable walking shoes
- Overnight: Chengdu
- Meals: Breakfast
Day 3: Chengdu → Huanglongjiuzhai Railway Station → Huanglong → Jiuzhaigou Valley Entrance
The Experience:
Today, we leave Chengdu behind and journey into the mountains of northern Sichuan by high-speed train.
Early in the morning, our driver will transfer you to Chengdu East Railway Station, where we board the train to Huanglongjiuzhai Station. As the scenery gradually shifts from modern city skylines to alpine valleys, rivers, and Tibetan villages, we begin to feel the dramatic transition to the Tibetan Plateau.
After arriving, our local guide and driver will take us to Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area, famous for its colorful travertine pools, limestone terraces, and mountain landscapes. Since the altitude here reaches around 3,100–3,500 meters, we will take the cable car uphill first, then enjoy a more comfortable walk down through the scenic area. Along the way, prayer flags, forested mountains, and the crisp thin air create an atmosphere completely different from Chengdu.
After the visit, we continue to the entrance area of Jiuzhaigou Valley and check into our hotel. If time and energy allow, we can take a relaxed evening stroll through the small town and experience the region’s unique Tibetan cultural atmosphere.
Highlights:
- UNESCO-listed Huanglong terraces
- High-altitude alpine scenery
- Scenic mountain road journey
Tips:
- Huanglong’s altitude reaches over 3,000m; walk slowly
- Bring sunscreen and light snacks
- Overnight: Jiuzhaigou
- Meals: Breakfast
Day 4: Jiuzhaigou National Park
The Experience:
Today, we spend the entire day exploring Jiuzhaigou National Park, a UNESCO-listed nature reserve famous for its turquoise lakes, waterfalls, colorful forests, and Tibetan mountain scenery.
Jiuzhaigou is shaped like a “Y,” with three main valleys (Rize Valley, Zechawa Valley, and Shuzheng Valley) connected by an eco-friendly shuttle bus system.
After entering the park in the morning, we usually take the sightseeing bus directly to the highest sections first (either the left or right branch, randomly), allowing us to explore downhill at a more relaxed pace while enjoying the best scenery step by step.
Rize Valley (the right branch): Mirror Lake, Five Flower Lake, Mirror Lake, and Pearl Shoal Waterfall.
The crystal-clear water, fallen tree trunks beneath the lakes, and changing forest colors create the dreamlike scenery that made Jiuzhaigou famous throughout China.
Zechawa Valley (the left branch): Long Lake, Five Colored Pool.
The quieter and higher-altitude section of the park, where long alpine lakes and mountain views offer a more peaceful atmosphere. Along the way, we may also spot Tibetan prayer flags and local cultural elements hidden among the forests.
Shuzheng Valley: Nuorilang Waterfall, Shuzheng Lakes, and Reed Lake.
Here, lakes, Tibetan villages, streams, and waterfalls blend beautifully.
Rather than rushing through viewpoints, today is about slowing down, enjoying the fresh mountain air, and fully experiencing the magical landscapes of western Sichuan.
Highlights:
- Multi-colored alpine lakes
- Waterfalls and forest scenery
- Easy walking trails with eco-transport
Tips:
- Wear layered clothing. Temperatures vary
- Bring water and a simple lunch inside the park
- Overnight: Jiuzhaigou
- Meals: Breakfast
Day 5: Jiuzhaigou → Huanglongjiuzhai Station → Chengdu
The Experience:
After breakfast, we leave the mountain valleys of Jiuzhaigou and begin our journey back to Chengdu.
Upon arriving at Huanglongjiuzhai Station, we board the high-speed train back to Chengdu. Watching the scenery gradually change from highland mountains to the busy Sichuan Basin feels like returning from a completely different world.
After arriving in Chengdu, the rest of the day is intentionally kept light. Following several days at a higher altitude, we recommend slowing down, enjoying a proper Sichuan meal, relaxing in a teahouse, or simply resting at the hotel to recover comfortably.
Highlights:
- Scenic return journey
- Free evening in Chengdu
Tips:
- Slow down to feel the city and have a local meal.
- Overnight: Chengdu
- Meals: Breakfast
Day 6: Wuhou Shrine → Jinli Street
The Experience:
Today, we will take a slower cultural experience back in Chengdu.
We begin at Wuhou Shrine, the city’s most famous historical site dedicated to Zhuge Liang and the heroes of the Three Kingdoms period. Walking through the quiet red walls, ancient courtyards, and cypress trees, we’ll discover why this era still holds such an important place in Chinese culture and storytelling.
Next, we continue to Jinli Ancient Street, one of Chengdu’s most lively traditional-style streets. Here, we can explore local snacks, tea houses, Sichuan handicrafts, and traditional performances while experiencing the atmosphere of old Chengdu. Compared with the dramatic landscapes of Jiuzhaigou, today feels more relaxed, local, and cultural.
Highlights:
- Three Kingdoms history
- Traditional Sichuan architecture
- Local snack exploration
Tips:
- Visit in the morning for fewer crowds
- Try handmade dumplings or sweet rice balls
- Overnight: Chengdu
- Meals: Breakfast
Day 7: Hotel → Departure
