Route Designer Notes

Team
Jack Chen

We designed this as a classic first-time China journey, but with a little more time and variety than the traditional triangle Beijing–Xi’an–Shanghai route. The river cruise is an important part of the design. It connects the Chengdu–Chongqing–Yichang section while giving you a few days to slow down. For us, that balance is important: seeing the highlights, but also having some breathing room along the way.

How many days do you need for a China highlights tour?

For a first-time China highlights tour, 10–14 days is a good range. Around 10 days works for the classic Beijing–Xi’an–Shanghai route, while 12–14 days gives you more time to add Chengdu, the Yangtze River, or another destination without making the trip feel too rushed.

Absolutely. The Yangtze River Cruise offers stunning Three Gorges scenery, relaxing travel, and a unique perspective on central China that is difficult to experience by land.

Are China high-speed trains comfortable for tourists?

Yes. China’s high-speed rail network is modern, clean, efficient, and one of the easiest ways to travel between major cities.

Which Yangtze River Cruise is best?

For most first-time visitors, we recommend the 4-day/3-night Chongqing–Yichang cruise, which covers the most scenic section of the Yangtze and fits particularly well into a China itinerary. Among the better-known ships, Century Voyage, Century Vision, Century Oasis, Victoria Isabella, and Victoria Sabrina are all good options, with the best choice depending on your travel dates, cabin preference, and budget.

Yes. All our China tours are fully tailor-made. Hotels, cruise options, pacing, activities, and destinations can all be adjusted to suit your travel needs.
