The day begins at Panda Valley near Dujiangyan, a quieter alternative to Chengdu’s main panda base, where the environment feels greener and less rushed. After the panda visit, you’ll continue south to Leshan, where a river cruise offers a relaxed and scenic way to view the world’s largest stone Buddha.
This route is ideal for first-time visitors, families, and travelers with limited time who want to experience both pandas and cultural heritage in one day.

Day 1:

07:00–08:30 | Hotel Pick-up & Drive to Panda Valley
Your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in Chengdu.
Leaving the city behind, we head northwest toward Dujiangyan through the fertile Chengdu Plain. The drive takes around 1.5 hours.
08:30–10:30 | Visit Panda Valley
Arrive at Panda Valley, one of the best places near Chengdu to observe giant pandas in a quieter, more natural environment.
Unlike the busier panda bases, Panda Valley offers a more relaxed experience with spacious enclosures surrounded by forested hills. We take our time exploring the park, watching giant pandas eat bamboo, play, and rest while learning about conservation efforts in China.
10:30–12:30 | Scenic Drive to Leshan
After your panda experience, continue south to Leshan.
12:30–13:30 | Local Lunch in Leshan
Enjoy a leisurely lunch featuring local Sichuan cuisine. Leshan is famous for its snacks and traditional dishes, and your guide can recommend options suited to your tastes and spice preferences.
13:30–16:30 | Explore the Leshan Giant Buddha
This afternoon is dedicated to one of China’s most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Standing 71 meters tall and carved directly into a cliff over 1,200 years ago, the Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest ancient stone Buddha in the world.
Depending on the time available and your preference, you can choose one of two ways to experience the Buddha:
- Scenic river cruise for panoramic views of the entire statue from the water.
- Walking visit through the scenic area, with a closer look at the Buddha, ancient carvings, temples, and viewing platforms.
Note: The walking route can involve long queues, especially when descending from the Buddha. As the visit takes around half a day, it is usually not practical to combine the walking visit and river cruise. We recommend choosing one based on your interests and the conditions on the day.
Your guide will share fascinating stories about the Buddha’s construction, Buddhist culture, and the engineering achievements behind this masterpiece.
16:30–18:30 | Return to Chengdu
After sightseeing, we begin our comfortable drive back to Chengdu.
18:30–19:30 | Hotel Drop-off & Tour Ends
Arrive back in Chengdu in the evening and transfer directly to your hotel.
