Meet your local guide in Yulin at around 8:00 AM and begin a full day exploring one of Chengdu’s most authentic neighborhoods. Rather than following a fixed food itinerary, we’ll discover the district as locals do: walking through residential streets, visiting traditional markets, tasting regional specialties, and experiencing the relaxed lifestyle that makes Chengdu famous throughout China.

08:00–09:30 | Chengdu Breakfast Culture

We begin where many Chengdu residents start their day: at local breakfast shops hidden among the neighborhood streets.

Your guide will introduce a variety of traditional breakfast specialties and explain their place in Chengdu’s food culture.

Adventurous travelers may wish to try Feichang Fen, while other options often include Sweet Water Noodles, Douhua, sesame desserts, steamed buns, and fried pastries, as well as seasonal local favorites.

Rather than following a fixed menu, you’ll have the flexibility to choose dishes to suit your tastes and comfort level while learning about the traditions behind them.

09:30–10:30 | Discover the Real Yulin

After breakfast, we slow down and explore the residential heart of Yulin.

Walking through quiet lanes such as Yulin Lane, Yujie Lane, and Yutong Lane, we’ll experience everyday Chengdu life beyond the tourist districts.

Along the way, your guide shares stories about neighborhood culture, local customs, tea traditions, mahjong gatherings, and the unique rhythm of life that has shaped Chengdu’s reputation as one of China’s most livable cities.

This is the side of Chengdu that many visitors never encounter.

10:30–11:30 | Yulin Market Exploration

Next, we visit a traditional local market where residents shop for fresh ingredients each day.

As we wander through the bustling stalls, you’ll discover the building blocks of Sichuan cuisine, from seasonal vegetables and preserved foods to spices, peppers, and fresh noodles. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how local ingredients influence the flavors found throughout Sichuan cooking.

The market also offers a fascinating glimpse into daily life and community interaction in modern Chengdu.

11:30–13:00 | Lunch Like a Local

By midday, we’ll stop in a popular neighborhood restaurant for an authentic Sichuan lunch.

Rather than dining at tourist-focused establishments, we’ll choose from local restaurants that residents genuinely enjoy. Your guide can recommend dishes based on your interests, whether you’re eager to try famous classics such as Mapo Tofu and Twice-Cooked Pork or prefer something less familiar.

Lunch is flexible, allowing you to order according to your appetite and preferences.

13:00–15:00 | Chengdu’s Art of Slowing Down

A proper day in Chengdu includes time to relax.

In the afternoon, we’ll pause at a neighborhood dessert shop, teahouse, or café to experience the city’s famously laid-back lifestyle. This break offers a chance to rest, observe local life, and appreciate the slower pace that has become an important part of Chengdu’s identity.

15:00–17:00 | Creative Chengdu & Cultural Streets

We continue through Fangcao Street, Fanghua Street, Fangcao East Street, and Yulin West Road, where independent cafés, bookstores, design studios, record shops, and creative spaces have transformed the neighborhood into one of Chengdu’s most interesting cultural districts.

Along the way, your guide will share how Yulin evolved from a traditional residential area into a gathering place for artists, musicians, students, and entrepreneurs.

As evening approaches, the streets become livelier, offering a final opportunity to soak in Yulin’s atmosphere before the guided experience concludes.

Your tour ends in Yulin around 6:00 PM, leaving you free to continue exploring, enjoy dinner, visit a local bar, or discover Chengdu’s evening music scene at your own pace.
