Tagong Grassland

Endless sky, prayer flags, and grazing yaks.

Overview

Tagong Grassland lies about 110 km west of Kangding in Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Sitting on the eastern edge of the Tibetan plateau, it is known for vast alpine meadows, roaming yaks, and distant snow mountains.

The name “Tagong” means “favorite place” in Tibetan — a fitting description for its open skies and serene highland atmosphere.

Why Visit

Tagong offers one of the most accessible Tibetan grassland landscapes from Chengdu. Prayer flags ripple across the plains, nomadic tents dot the horizon, and herds of yaks graze beneath dramatic mountain backdrops.

The grassland is also home to Tagong Monastery, adding spiritual depth to the sweeping scenery. Whether you’re photographing golden meadows or simply breathing in the crisp plateau air, Tagong delivers a classic Western Sichuan experience.
